Prospero Alpini (1553-1617) was a Venetian physician and botanist, who lived in Egypt between 1580 and 1583. This nicely illustrated work contains his observations on the plants of Egypt, including some staples of Egyptian cuisine, such as molokhia.

This book was acquired by AUC Libraries in 2018, with the generous support of the Margaret R. King and Margaret W. Harmon Endowment. It is dedicated to Shahira El Sawy, Dean of Libraries and Learning Technologies from 1998 to 2018, in recognition and gratitude for her service to the University and the scholarly community since 1964.
